An exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad was opened in the Brest Fortress

27 January , Brest / Korr. Belta/. At the Defense Museum of the memorial complex“Brest Fortress-Hero” opened a photo-documentary exhibition“Spark of Leningrad victory”, BelTA correspondent reports.

Exhibition from the funds of the State Memorial Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the blockade of the city on the Neva. The joint project is dedicated to the heroism of the soldiers of the Red Army and the inhabitants of the besieged Leningrad, whose feat of arms and valiant labor broke the blockade ring.

The exposition consists of25 exhibition tablets. The materials tell about attempts to break through the blockade ring in1941 and1942 years, about the situation, prevailing at the front near Leningrad by the end1942 of the year. The issues of preparation for the operation are covered“A spark”, status and balance of forces of the Leningrad and Volkhov fronts, army group troops“North”. The exposition shows the progress of the operation to break the blockade of the city. During the period of the most fierce and difficult battles on the Leningrad Front, the surviving defenders of the Brest Fortress stood shoulder to shoulder with the Leningraders..

“Today we honor the memory of the dead, and I celebrate that, who broke this blockade, released the Road of Life to Leningrad, its inhabitants. We honor the memory of women, children, old people, soldiers and commanders of the Red Army. We are very pleased, that the opening of this exhibition is taking place within the walls of the Museum of the Defense of the Brest Fortress. No doubt, that the people of Brest, visitors will get to know her with a deep sense of empathy”, – said the director of the memorial complex“Brest Fortress-Hero” Grigory Bysyuk.

The presentation of the exhibition in the Brest Fortress began exactly at12.00 – symbolic time, when a traditional cannon shot is heard in the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg. Today it not only marked the onset of noon, but also the beginning of events, dedicated to a memorable date not only in Russia, but also other countries. The blockade of Leningrad lasted almost900 days and became the most severe in the history of mankind. According to official data, her victims were630 thousand. civilians, according to unofficial– for less1,5 млн человек.

“In the history of Russia, in the history of our states today is of particular importance. Breaking the blockade, which lasted almost900 days and nights, marked the feat of our people– all, who fought at the front, who defended the city, who lived for life, for the sake of future generations. Years go by, but a feat, made by the Leningraders, remains in our hearts. Символично, that we meet in the Brest Fortress, because our peoples stood together in that war, managed to defeat fascism”, – said Consul General of Russia in Brest Oleg Murashev and offered to honor the memory of those who died and survived in that war with a minute of silence.

During the presentation, a live broadcast was organized with the Memorial Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad. With my childhood memories, fallen on wartime, the blockade was shared with those present, Navy veteran Valery Kasatonov and son of the defender of the Brest Fortress Vladimir Semochkin. The event was attended by representatives of public, veteran organizations, students of law classes at schools in Brest, Youth Army of Post No. 1.

Exhibition“Spark of Leningrad victory” will last at the Defense Museum until the end of February. In turn, the staff of the memorial complex prepared an exhibition for the residents of St. Petersburg“I AM– fortress, I'm fighting”, dedicated to the defense of the Brest Fortress in June– July1941 of the year. In the near future, its opening will take place in the city on the Neva.-0-
